Weekend Update
posted by Brian on February 7, 2002 at 08:32 PM
A few highlights from recent days around here…
1. I was in New York again yesterday to talk with a musician who is interested in representation. Fun trip, but long. I left the house at 6:30 am and got back at midnight. I haven’t yet splurged on the Acela Express (Amtrak’s almost-bullet train), but maybe when I make more money I will. It costs an extra $50 round trip, and you save about 50 minutes each direction. So…50 cents a minute. Time is money, as they say…
Another highlight of this trip was going to the observation deck of the Empire State Building. Pretty cool (literally and figuratively).
2. THE PATRIOTS WON THE SUPER BOWL.
3. The insurance company finally gave us the go ahead on the ICSI thing. Now we just have to wait for Amy’s body to get back to normal after getting whacked out on the first cycle that we had to cut short.
4. Amy has presented two programs in the Technology and Culture Forum recently. Last week was War and the Media, and last night was one called “What Part of You is Not For Sale?”
5. THE PATRIOTS WON THE SUPER BOWL.
6. I’m getting geared up for a Boston Symphony audition. I have to submit a tape, so I may not end up in the audition, but we’ll see…
7. We went to two different home improvement expo-type things last weekend. On Saturday, we went to the Home Expo, one of those convention center type events where there is row upon row of vendors telling you why they should be the one to do your vinyl siding/air conditioning/add-on deck/kitchen cabinets/whatever. And hot tubs… Apparently you can’t do an addition/renovation/new home and look yourself in the mirror if you don’t have a hot tub or, better yet, a home sauna. At least, that’s what we thought until we went to…
the Boston Preservation Alliance Old Home Fair, held in this really amazing old space (the Cyclorama) in the South End. It couldn’t have been more different from the Home Expo. You know all those people who show up on “This Old House”? That’s who came to this one. Antiques, restoration specialists, historic home realtors, restored antique stove/ovens… Mostly a bit more high end than we need, but it was fun. Now we just have to decide what the most important things are to do to this house and get started.
8. THE PATRIOTS WON THE SUPER BOWL.
9. One of the musicians I represent gave a concert last Monday in Los Angeles. You can read a review of it here:

10. We had friends from Wisconsin in town last weekend, which meant dinner at…Legal Seafoods! This time I went for the seafood ravioli. Frankly, I didn’t have high expectations. After all, ground up seafood in pasta: how original can that be? Turns out, it was amazing. Big chunks of shrimp and lobster. Excellent choice.
And, we have more friends from Wisconsin in town this weekend, and another couple visiting in a couple of weeks. At this rate, I will have sampled the entire menu by early April.
(Funny how many more friends find themselves in Boston than in Milwaukee… Just an observation…)
11. THE BRONCOS DID NOT WIN THE SUPER BOWL.
12. THE PATRIOTS WON THE SUPER BOWL.
But I’m still a Packer fan. You’ve got to say, though, that this was about the most exciting Super Bowl you’ve ever seen. Am I right? I’m sure this means the Red Sox are going to have a great year. You gotta love Boston. Here we are, just winning the Super Bowl, and every third person at the pep rally/victory party in downtown Boston is saying “YANKEES SUCK!” Like that’s gonna help.
That’s about it from here in New England, where winter has apparently been repealed. (But there’s nothing wrong with the earth…)

Hey, did anyone see the Superbowl? I was really busy staring at some dust motes floating around the living room so I didn't have time to watch it. Who won? The Red Sox or the Lakers? Or was it the Flyers and the Beatles? I can't keep all those teams straight ...
