Amy's Essay
posted by Brian on August 20, 2002 at 10:01 PM

Next time you’re at your favorite newsstand, check out the Fall 2002 issue of Spirituality and Health magazine. In it you’ll find an essay Amy wrote called, “Why I Ditched My PDA”.

I would tell you more about the piece, but that would sort of spoil the fun of reading it in the magazine. So you’ll just have to go check it out.

In other news, the bathroom is basically completed. There are a few more odds and ends for the contractor to finish up (like installing a towel bar that’s been back ordered and hooking up the radiator) and some more work for us (painting the trim and the new wall in the bedroom behind the bathroom), but we’re happily taking showers, brushing our teeth, and, well, you know, all that other stuff you do in a bathroom. (My modesty overwhelms temporarily…) While we might have made a few minor decisions differently if we were to do it over, we’re really happy we had the project done. The room we lost in the bedroom seems insignificant (especially since we were hardly using that room), and the room gained in the bathroom makes an enormous difference. One of these days, we’ll post before and after pictures on this site. (Once we get the right equipment and figure out how to do that.)

We had a great visit with Mom and Dad, and the house is better for it. They did an incredible job helping us clean, reorganize, paint, build, re-upholster, move furniture, etc. while they were here. And one of the best parts was Mom making dinner every night. An incredible luxury for us. And all of this was going on during a nasty, brutal heat wave without a shower available here at the house. Quite the troopers, those parents…

So things are sort of back to normal here. I’m off in a week to Phoenix for a conference, and then on to LA to visit the Reynolds over Labor Day weekend.

Hey, we have a new contest. Now that we’ve gotten such great ideas for names, the next question everyone gets to answer is this: what kind of car should we consider to replace the CRX? It has to be cheap, safe, efficient, roomy enough for four plus dog plus mongo stroller, and fun to drive. Post your opinions here.

You are a good writer, Amy. I have never used a PDA, and thought I might want to someday. However, it will not work for me for similar reasons that you mentioned in the article.
