Randy Newman Writes My Mantras

“I love LA, I love LA” - we’re learning to say that around here.
David’s timing for creating this site is perfect for us - the next few months are going to be pretty intense and we hope to use this as a primary information source.
For those of you who haven’t gotten the scoop yet, Kim is joining the faculty ranks at the University of Southern California. He’ll be in the Institute for Prevention Research, which is in the medical school. I’m going to let him post an entry that gives more specifics about the job, but suffice it to say I’m incredibly proud of him - this is pretty big medicine! (OK - bad pun)
Kim will start work in April, but beyond that the schedule’s a bit fuzzy. He is going to LA this week for some meetings, so will begin to set up his paperwork.
He will also be working with a realtor this week to begin looking for a house. As his office will be in Alhambra (away from the main campus and north of downtown), we’re going to look in the north-eastern foothills area. In other words, around Pasadena! We’re beginning to think the Pasadena area is some weird vortex for us. Aside from the history our family has there, Kim’s dad grew up in El Monte and worked at Hastings Ranch as a young man (it was always fun to be around when Fred and Mom tried to out-Pasadena each other :).
Anyway, we also fortunate in that Uncle John and Aunt Cathy have some friends who just got done buying a house in the area. We’ve gotten some information from them and Kim will be meeting with the realtor they suggested this next weekend.
While he’s gone, I’ll start working on the things we need to do to sell the Colorado house. Fortunately, it’s still pretty sound (except for the hole in the bedroom wall - another story for another time). The LA housing market is tight enough that you’ve got to have the money in hand for your down payment before you sign a contract, so we’ve got to get crackin’.
Time to get to work - stay tuned!
