Let's try this again!

Well, let’s try this posting thing again. I can’t seem to find what I wrote last night - I’m sure it’s out there in cyperspace somewhere, I just can’t figure out where.
I’m sure you’ve all guessed that our news is we’ve bought a house! The basic stats are that it’s a 3-bdrm, 2-bath ranch built in 1949 with a detached 2-car garage converted to an office. Hardwood floors throughout, fireplaces in the living room and 3rd bedroom, a separate dining room, laundry room, and eat-in kitchen.
Here’s the weird stuff:
- It’s about 3 miles from Grandma. Remember the intersection that has Starbucks, Whole Foods, See’s Candies, and Mail Boxes, Etc? It’s about 6 blocks north of that intersection.
- It’s in a development built on the old Hastings Ranch. When Kim’s dad was an adolescent, he worked for a time at the Hastings Ranch. So, he could have walked across our front lawn!
We had the inspection yesterday and overall things look pretty good. There are some electrical things to fix, some gas-pipe conduits to upgrade, and some repair of cracks in a couple of the chimneys. Given the age of the house, not bad.
The yard is a little larger than we’d like (although not as big as that yard in Alabama!), but we’re thinking about giving Doug a call for recommendations for landscape architects to help us figure out how to make some of it low maintenance and low-water intensive (right now there’s a slew of broad-leaved grass).
So, next time you head to southern CA, you don’t have to stay at the Grove …
As we get more details (and maybe some pics!), we’ll get them to you!

Sounds cool... But I still want to hear about that hole in the wall in Colorado.
Key question: what's the commute like to Dodger Stadium?

Do you have a carport to replace the garage? Are you going to use the garage as your office? I know I always had a problem with having a business space inside the house. I think the idea of an office that is in a physically different building sounds pretty cool.

I don't remember which of the stuff you mentioned they are taking care of and which you are going to have to do. Post that when you have time. I think I remember that you guys are going to take care of the sprinkler heads.
Did you take pictures with the digital camera of your realtor? If so, can she post them here (D2) or do you have a way to do so? I know little about how that works.

Kim and Heather,
I hope you are the ones we knew from Arizona. I just sent Kim an E-mail. I thought you had ended up in Alabamaand it sounds as if you were there. We are in Arkansas and hope to get back out west in (gasp) seven years. I have learned to make the best of it here. It is slow and backwards. Please write back...is Sarah your daughter? We had two kids...Daniellle 14 and Jacob 12.
